About Us
The Microbiology Laboratory of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is part of the Section of Botany of the Department of Biology. We are located at the 1st floor (Microbiology Corridor) of the Biology Building at the Athens University Campus at Zografou, Attica.
Our major research interests focus on the following subjects:
The functions and mechanisms utilized by microbes.
The relationships between microbes and their environment.
The genetic content of microbes and its regulation.
Using microbes to develop new products, methods, and organisms.
What We Do Now
GREAT TECHNOLOGY
Our research team has made notable contributions in the field of microbiology, with a focus on bacteria and actinobacteria in particular. Our publications highlight our research on bacterial physiology, ecology, and genetic interactions. We have also published groundbreaking work on utilizing industrial waste through fermentation processes, cultivating new bacterial isolates for bioactive compound production, and developing molecular techniques for controlling genetically modified organisms.
Overall, our research publications underscore our commitment to advancing knowledge in the fields of microbiology, bacterial physiology and ecology, microbial biotechnology, and molecular techniques. We continue to explore new frontiers and collaborate with esteemed colleagues to contribute to the scientific community and promote sustainable and responsible practices in microbiological research.
